Earlier today, we attended the #SBS 2019 event in Birmingham, hosted once again by Theo Paphitis, who we must thank for the effort and expense he and his team invest on behalf of the SBS family. This year’s event had a slightly different format to the ones we attended in the past (we missed last years due to work commitments), so the format felt refreshing for us.
The guest speakers have always been our main attraction and for us, this year was the most relevant yet. The main headline speaker of the day, other than Theo, was Google UK & Ireland’s Head of SME Marketing, Raja Saggi. Being an internet retailer, his insights and suggestions were both interesting and helpful to our particular business.
In previous years the afternoon session was taken up with a question time style panel of guests, but the revised format has Theo interviewing a successful business person and this year he invited Sir Tom Hunter to discuss the lessons he learnt from his successes and failures. Although we weren’t aware of much of his career, we were very impressed with his honesty and found his storey inspiring and in places humours.
All in all we had an enjoyable day and met some new friends, including those from Better2Know.
Here’s looking forward to the 2020 event.
